Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
The second largest city in Brazil, Rio de Janeiro is filled with beauty and wonder wherever you go. Whether it’s soaking up the sun at the thrilling Copacabana & Ipanema beaches or dancing the night away at one of Rio’s hottest clubs, tourists will come to find that the party really doesn’t stop unless they want it to. One of Rio de Janeiro’s biggest parties is the annual Carnival, a week-long party that starts 40 days before Easter. There, people parade in the street, enjoy plentiful amounts of food and dance to upbeat Samba music.
If partying isn’t your style, there are still many things to enjoy. Rio de Janeiro’s extremely rich history makes for unbelievable trips to architectural wonders and museums. One must-see is the awe-inspiring Cristo Redentor (Statue of Jesus Christ) on Corcovado Mountain or visit one of Brazil’s many museums, including: Museu Histórico Nacional (National Museum of History), Museu da República (Museum of the Republic), Museu Nacional (National Museum). If you’re more of the adventurous type, the Corcovado is open for hiking as is Sugarloaf Mountain.
Seoul, South Korea
If abounding markets, abundant food options and hiking are more your style, Seoul, South Korea may be the place for you. One of the most developed and culturally rich cities on the planet, you’re guaranteed to get the best of both worlds. Seoul’s opulent palaces (Gyeongbok-gung, Changdeok-gung, Deoksu-gung, Changgyeong-gung, Gyeonghui-gung) will undoubtedly mesmerize while Seoul’s most popular markets (Namdaemun, Dongdaemun, Insa-dong, Yongsan Electronics Market, Techno Mart, etc) will intrigue with their sheet variety of goods and gadgets.
Another Seoul pastime (popular among natives and tourists alike) is hiking and climbing. Home to a number of daunting yet majestic mountains, one will find that it really isn’t that difficult to get started. Mount Bukhan, Mount Gwanak, Mount Samseong & Mount Inwang all offer hiking opportunities for beginners and seasoned adventurers alike. Photographic opportunities also bountiful for those looking to get a bird’s eye perspective of various places in Seoul.
Amsterdam, Netherlands
It’s no secret that Amsterdam is one of the most “open” cities in the world. However, Amsterdam is known for things other than their “Coffee Shops” (we’ll let you google that on your own) and the Red Light District (We’ll also allow you to google that). While the above places are fun for some tourists, Amsterdam’s beautiful culture and rich history make it a worthwhile spot.
Amsterdam happens to be known for having the most astonishing buildings and landscapes in the world. The Begijnhof (one of the oldest group of historical buildings in the country) and the Oude Kerk, Nieuwe Kerk, Zuiderkerk, Noorderkerk, & Westerkerk churches showcase eras from which we had never experience before. Also a must-see for any visitor to Amsterdam are the extraordinary yet quaint windmills.
Rome, Italy
If it’s history and food you’re focused on, Rome is probably the best place to visit. Many people aren’t very likely to argue that Rome’s historical sites and museums are some of the most influential in the world. The best part is that many of these sites are completely open to the public; so you can observe history first hand. Visit the Acqua Marcia (Ancient Aqueduct), Arch of Constantine, Arch of Septimius Severus & the many landmarks of the Vatican. The architecture is beautiful and the thought of such advanced technology in ancient times is beyond remarkable.
Outside of the amazing historical landmarks, the food is the other reason to visit Rome. There are cafes practically everywhere you go, the wine is fairly inexpensive and the pizza is incomparable to any other pizza in the world. All of the ingredients are local, fresh and uniquely cooked to perfection.
Although these are considered, by many, to be the best destinations in the world, there are a multitude of other places that are incredibly unique. The locations listed above certainly aren’t the be-all end-all for best destination, but they’re locations where people can find the best of what they’re yearning for. There are many cities like Rome, Rio de Janeiro, Seoul and Amsterdam. Naturally, people have different wants and needs (and different budgets). The best thing one can do is to do their homework.
